The comparison of two kinds of magnetic suspension principle is presented by aimed at the problem in application of maglev supporting technology used for the design of maglev linear feed unit. Referring to the built single degree of freedom magnetic levitation bearing model, the model of maglev linear feed unit with five degrees of freedom (5-DOF) was established. Two kinds of supporting pillar of maglev linear feed were designed by using the Solidworks 3-D software. After their positioning analysis carried out with the help of the finite element software ANSYS (FEA), the best supporting position of pillars for two kinds of platform respectively in the linear feed direction and the guide direction were calculated. The calculation and analysis presented can be used to design with optimization the structure of the maglev linear feed unit.
