Abstract:Engineering ceramics edge broken and crack propagation is one of the hotspot for ceramic processing, and current research revolves always around how to avoid edge broken and crack propagation in the process of ceramic processing. Extrusion processing method was introduced, which makes good use of engineering ceramicsfeature of hard and brittle. The theoretical basis of the extrusion processing was summarized and studied systematically. Single crystal indentation squeeze edges broken experiments according to Si3N4, SiC, Al2O3 engineering ceramics materials were carried out, and combined with results of finite element simulation, the relationship was explored between distance from the pressure head to the edge, loading speed of the pressure head, boss width and groove depth with squeeze pressure. The results show that within a certain range of loading speed, squeeze pressure is inversely proportional to the loading speed and groove depth,and is positively proportional to the distance from the pressure head to the edge and boss width.
