Abstract:Ball end mill is a highperformance structured tool which is used for machining complex surfaces on CNC machine. A new type of doubleedged indexable ball end mill was designed,in order to improve the performance of ball end mill,and its 3D solid model was established in CAD/CAM software Pro/E.Then,the AdvantEdge which is metal cutting finite element software was used to simulate the milling process with imported tool 3D model,and to obtain the changing relationships of cutting performance parameters with time.Finally, the parameters of a standard integral ball end mill milling process were comparatively analyzed. The results show that the properties of the cutter were excellent, and the feasibility of the design is verified.The analysis results provide a reference for the ball end mill optimized design and its actual milling..
