Since the traditional small grinding machines have some shortcoming such as heavy weight and high working load for workers, a smallscale grinding machine with the main frame of hollow rod is proposed and designed in this paper to reduce the weight; Based on the basic theory of mechanics of materials, solid and hollow rods are compared for analysis; the strength and stiffness are anatomized through adopting the SolidWorks Simulation as to verify whether the frame with reduced weight satisfies the applying requirements.
