The active headrest can effectively reduce the distance between headrest and head during the rear end collision, resulting in better protection for the head and neck of the occupant. After reviewing current active headrest design’s advantages and defects, an innovative mechanism for the active headrest is designed with the modular design method and the kinematics model of the mechanism is developed and analyzed by using UG/Motion. The result shows that the trajectory of the mechanism conforms to the design requirements, and the motion is not interfered. Finally, the feasibility and correctness of the design are verified by the prototype.
