Abstract:According to the characteristics of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) and computerized numerical control(CNC) machining, an open WEDM CNC system was designed and developed to make open architecture control (OAC) apply to WEDM. WEDM machines are similar to CNC milling machines in feed movement, but there are differences in control strategies. In order to solve the problem of incompatibility between OAC and WEDM, an open CNC model of WEDM was proposed, which was composed of synchronous kernels and CNC functional modules. An accurate non-uniform rational B-spline interpolation function was designed and applied to the existing commercial WEDM system. A nonuniform rational B-spline interpolator was added into the system, and the integrated test of system functions were carried out. The experiment results verify the validity of the above method
