Abstract:The surface micro-textile parameters were optimized by friction and wear tests. On this basis, grooved micro-textures on rake face of cutters were prepared. Then, the influences of micro-texture depth, width and surface occupancy on the machinability of YG8 cutters were analyzed on the orthogonal cutting test under the lubrication condition. The results show: micro-textures are not effect obviously on the reduction of cutting force, but a great improvement on the friction between cutting chips, which means 31.8% reduction of wear and 19.20% reduction of friction. However, for the short of strength, the cutter with micro-texture on its flank face has worse wear.
