Based on the optimal velocity model and the consideration of drivers’ timid or aggressive characteristics on traffic flow, a new model has been proposed in this paper. The stability condition was obtained by using linear analysis and the nonlinear reductive perturbation method, the kinkantikink evolution equation was derived to describe the behavior of traffic flow. The simulation results showed that the drivers’ characteristics could influence the behavior of drivers.
