For safety issues in food production, a metal object detection locator based on two dimensional mobile platform was proposed. The system was controlled by the upper computer, to monitor the process of metal detection，and to display the type and position coordinates of the probe，taking 1 dime coin, 1 RMB coin and a iron ring with 40 mm diameter as the research objects. Experimental results show that the metal detector system can be used to achieve metal object detection, discrimination and precise positioning, by the independent motion control along X and Y axes, and can display the results accurately and intuitively.It has a certain research significance.
