The vibration and noise radiation of a car V-type engine was analyzed by the finite element method(FEM) and boundary element method(BEM). The finite element model of the engine was modified by the modal test data to ensure the accuracy. The noise radiation from the surface of engine was predicted by the BEM, based on the surface vibration measurement data, and the results were compared with that of the whole noise measured by nine point sound pressure method. The results show that: The noise radiation calculated by the surface vibration method is relatively accurate, which provides a simple and accurate method for the design of low noise engine, and has a widely application in the practice.
